It’s March which means tiny house festival season is upon us! Just a couple of days ago, Tiny Homes Carnival was held for two days in Sydney, Australia with special guests like Bryce Langston of the hit Youtube channel on all things tiny, Tiny House, Big Living, and Tiny House Nation hosts John Weisbarth and Zack Griffin.

We’ve collected all the expos happening in this 2020 tiny house festival calendar. Note that festivals that haven’t announced dates at the time of writing, including BIG Massachusetts Tiny House Festival, haven’t been included in the calendar.

6 Must-See Tiny House Expos In 2020

Just like tiny houses, expos and festivals come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re looking for an “in” and want to learn more about tiny houses, these top five festivals are must-visits in your tiny house journey. 

These shows are among the biggest, most comprehensive tiny house related events in the U.S., Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, attracting the best builders in the business, as well as some real-life tiny house travelers who are more than happy to share their experiences with you.

1) Great American Tiny House Show

Tickets: $15 for adults, $10 for military and senior, free for kids ages 12 and under

The Great American Tiny House Show is a massive, multi-leg event. For 2020 alone, they have six expos lined up from Florida all the way to Washington. 

The Great American Tiny House is the perfect expo if you’re looking to expand your knowledge on all things tiny houses. The expo is more focused on construction practices, equipment, and tools, which provides a treasure trove of resources for professional builders and DIYers alike. 

The show is a great way to get introduced into tiny house living. In this expo, you’ll get the chance to enter actual tiny houses on wheels (THOW), alongside other alternative living options such as modular homes and container homes. Some builders will be selling accessories, appliances, and even tiny houses on the spot, so you can definitely walk away with your brand new home in tow.

2) TinyFest

Tickets: $15 for a weekend pass; $20 for weekend pass door charge; $10 for a single-day ticket; $15 for a single-day ticket door charge. Kids 12 and under, military personnel, and veterans are free on Saturday and Sunday with a valid ID. 

TinyFest is a community festival celebrating all things tiny, including bus-to-home conversions, container homes, among other things. Currently, there are three TinyFest events: TinyFest California, TinyFest Midwest, and TinyFest Northwest. The relaxed setting is a great way to meet like-minded people in the community and connect with tiny house builders, owners, and just plain enthusiasts. 

Think of it as an outdoor festival with food, drinks, live music, and of course, tiny houses you can go in and visit. TinyFest also features workshops and seminars. Previous keynote speakers have included John Weisbarth of Tiny House Nation and Alexis Stephens and Christian Parsons of Tiny House Expeditions. 

The Simple Living Marketplace alone is a reason to join the fun. During the festival, TinyFest gathers vendors and services that can be used by tiny house owners, with themes spanning from sustainability to travel to simple living. It’s a fantastic place to shop for appliances, products, or services related to tiny house living. 

3) Small Home Expo

Tickets: $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students (with ID), free for kids ages 12 and under

This year, they’re holding the Small Home Expo at 1190 Cornell Street, Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.

This tiny house expo satisfies festivalgoers who are into talking about tiny house living as well as handymen who enjoy the building process itself. The expo features two stages: the Main Stage where talks and seminars happen; and the Technical Stage, where festivalgoers can witness a live tiny house build over the course of the weekend. 

It’s a great place to learn more about insulation, construction material, and building practices. If you’re a DIYer who doesn’t have a single clue on how to start building, you can take notes from professional builders at the Small Home Expo. 

4) Tiny Living Festival

Tickets: $20 for a one-day pass, $25 for a two-day pass. Free for children ages 12 and under. Veterans, badge-law enforcement officers, military and veterans, as well as fighters get in free with valid IDs. pets are welcome. 

The Tiny Living Festival is one of the biggest tiny house expos in the US, organized by the United Tiny House Association (UTHA). Just like TinyFest, Tiny Living has three events: Tiny Living Festival Georgia, Tiny Living Festival California, and Tiny Living Festival Florida. 

At the time of writing, the organizers have only released dates and details on the Georgia leg of the event, which will happen on April 4 to 5 at the Turner Field in Atlanta. 

Tiny Living Festival is a wonderful way to immerse in tiny house living through people who have experienced the tiny life firsthand. The festival is giving free tickets to homeowners who are willing to give tours of their tiny house, bus, van, or camper to festivalgoers.

Vendors, microhomes, workshops, and presentations abound in the Tiny Living Festival. Speakers for the 2020 Georgia festival include Derek Diedricksen of The Tiny House Blog. 

5) Tiny House Festival Australia

Tickets: $40 for a full weekend pass for adults, $30 for concession cardholders. $25 for a one-day pass, and $20 for concession cardholders. These prices don’t include access to Masterclasses by keynote speakers, which costs $35 for each session. An all-access pass is available for $100. Free for kids ages 12 and under. 

Australia’s first-ever tiny house festival comes back for its second year this 2020! The Tiny House Festival Australia is a bi-yearly event happening on the 21st and 22nd of March 2020 in Victoria and 17th and 18th of October 2020 in NSW.

Like other tiny house expos, this festival features tiny houses, vans, campers, and other microhomes. There will be tons of tiny houses on display available for touring, as well as workshops, speakers, and exhibitions from leading Australian builders like Havenwood Tiny Homes, Tiny Life Creations, Tiny Pods, L&D Tiny Houses, and Off-Grid Tiny Houses. 

This year, they’re bringing in known personalities in the tiny house movement, including tiny house pioneers Jay Shafer and Dee Williams - who have been building and living in tiny houses before they hit mainstream. 

6) NZ Tiny House & Alternative Living Conference

Tickets: $99 for stage 1, $119 for stage 2, and $129 for stage 3

The NZ Tiny House & Alternative Living Conference is a one-day conference on all things tiny. The conference features individuals who have successfully lived off-grid, as well as downsizing experts, professional builders, and DIYers. It’s a fantastic event if you want to hear opinions and advice from both professionals in the industry and self-taught experts.

One reason to attend the conference is to visit the exhibitions from different modular home and tiny house builders. Exhibitors include Tin House Builders LTD, Freedome Home Solutions, Eco Space, and SteelHaus. 

It’s a great opportunity to connect with vendors and services that make tiny house living easier, whether it’s creating your own solar system or finding a reliable towing company. 

The conference gives attendants access to tiny house models and products, giving them the opportunity to canvas prices and connect with vendors on the spot.
